On the 13th of March 2023, Shri V. Nagdas, painter, and printmaking artist were appointed as the Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi. He was born in the Palghat district of Kerala in 1957. V. Nagdas obtained a National Diploma in Painting from College of Fine Arts Trivandrum, Kerala in 1982 and a Post Diploma in Graphic Arts from Viswabharati University Santiniketan in 1984. Under the guidance of Prof. Sanat Kar, he completed his research with National Scholarship in 1986. He is a recipient of several prestigious awards like the National Academy Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, International Print Biennial Award from Bharat Bhavan Bhopal, Grand Award of AIFACS, and Gold medal of Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi. He served as a Professor, Dean, and Head of the Department of Graphics in the Visual Arts Faculty, Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, India. He has participated and exhibited in various National and International Art Camps, Workshops, and Art shows in India and abroad and has traveled extensively. He has been invited as a Jury member and as an Advisory to many selection committees for Awards and Honors in art in the country. He has also delivered several online talk shows on contemporary art practices.

Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Art), New Delhi was inaugurated on 5th August 1954 by the then Minister for Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and was registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860, on 11th March 1957. In pursuance of the objectives set out in the Constitution, the organisation functions through its General Council, Executive Board and other Committees. Lalit Kala Akademi, the youngest of the three Akademies founded by Govt. of India, establishes to direct its focus on activities in the field of Visual Arts. In his inaugural speech Maulana Abul Kalam Azad had stated “The Akademi must work to preserve the glorious traditions of the past and enrich them by the work of our modern artists”. Akademi has preserved and documented a permanent collection of the highest order that reflects the vitality, complexity and unfolding patterns of contemporary, modern, folk and tribal art in India. Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi along with its Regional Centres situated at Chennai, Lucknow, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Garhi (New Delhi) and sub-centres at Shimla, Ahmedabad, Agartala, Patna presents exhibitions workshops, camps lectures, retrospectives shows and many other art activities of unparalleled significance.
